Food
Groceries
Fresh Street Market is across the street and is the best grocery store in Whistler. It has a large bakery, hot soups, a wide selection of sandwiches and is the closest thing to a “deli” in Whistler. If you decide to cook at home, everything you need is in this store. We like buying the individually frozen Sockeye salmon portions--in our opinion the best fish in the world. This store closes at 7 pm. The grocery store in the Village Center stays open until 9 pm.
Liquor
The BC government liquor store is across the street in the Marketplace Mall. A great selection of wine, beer and spirits are in this store.
Before, During and After Skiing
Whistler Lift Company – Great place for coffee, and breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Keep this place in mind at the base of the lifts if the mountain restaurants are full. Opens early.
Garibaldi Lift Co – Great nachos after a day of skiing. Harder to get into for lunch. Opens around 11 am.
Dubh Linn Gate - A nice place to stop for beers and snacks either after skiing or for lunch. Opens around 11 am.
Medium Tier Dining
Earls – This is a local Vancouver based chain that promotes the concept of Casual Fine dining. Their food is consistently good, the service is great and the menu is varied. They are open for lunch and dinner.
The Keg Steakhouse – This is also a Vancouver chain and focuses on steaks. They have a big bar area where you can access the full menu. If you need a last-minute place to eat without a reservation, show up at 5 pm and ask to sit in the bar area.
Milestones – Another chain. It is in the upper village – about a 20 minute walk and you can see a different part of Whistler. But we think Earles is much better.
Portabello – In the upper village. A varied menu and not too fancy for a hotel restaurant.
Fine Dining
Caminetto – Our favorite place. Amazing decor and a focus on Italian food. There is a large bar area so if you are walking up without a reservation, go at 5 pm and ask to sit in the bar. Outdoor seating (with heaters) is available.
Rimrock Café – This is not easy walking distance from our townhome because it is in the Creekside Village. You can take the public bus or a taxi. But if you are feeling energetic, walking to Creekside is straightforward and safe along the paved (and usually plowed) Valley Trail and you will see some lovely lakes. The walk will be about 50-60 minutes.
Araxi – Serves fresh oysters and has a varied menu with a focus on local ingredients.
Bear Foot Bistro – Probably one of the most expensive places in Whistler. Elegant decor and a high level of service.
Joe Fortes – This is the Whistler location of a well-known Vancouver restaurant.
